Humbled by Sovereignty: Overcoming Pride Through Theology
Aug 23, 2026 • Mike Abbott
Using the account of King Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 4 as the central text, this sermon examines how pride manifests in human achievement and self-sufficiency, and how a proper theology — a right understanding of who God is in relation to ourselves — is the remedy for feelings of superiority. Brother Mike traces Nebuchadnezzar's journey from arrogance to humility, arguing that when we fail to acknowledge God's sovereignty, He will use revelation, reprieve, reprimand, and ultimately restoration to bring us to recognition of His lordship. The sermon concludes with an invitation to raise one's eyes toward heaven rather than looking inward, downward, or around, and to receive the grace God gives to the humble.
