Suffering, Hope, and Glory: God's Purpose in Our Pain

Jul 19, 2026    Mike Abbott

Drawing from Romans 8:16-28, this sermon addresses the universal reality of suffering and offers biblical hope to those experiencing physical, emotional, and spiritual pain. Brother Mike establishes that Christians are not exempt from suffering, but that suffering for the believer carries a divine expectation and a promised end in glory. The sermon traces the origin of suffering to the fall of Adam and Eve and the resulting curse on creation, while pointing forward to the return of Christ as the moment when that curse will be lifted, the sons of God revealed, and creation itself liberated. In the meantime, God has not left believers without comfort. He is present through the indwelling Holy Spirit, who intercedes on behalf of believers with a depth beyond human expression, and He is purposefully at work in all circumstances for the good of those who love Him. Suffering, the pastor argues, is not meaningless but is part of a larger tapestry being woven by a sovereign and loving God.
